A. Self-Actualisation is the quest to become the best you can be. It involves deciding what you want from life and then doing what is necessary to get what you want. Self-actualisation is a term coined by psychologist Abraham Maslow to describe the ongoing process of fully developing your personal potential. The first thing to note about self-actualisation is that it is a process not a goal. In other words, self-actualisation is not something that you aim for: it is something that you do. The second thing to note is that self-actualisation is not restricted to high-profile, high-achieving individuals; you don't have to be famous to self-actualise. Q. What is the meaning of heirachy of needs by Abraham Maslow?

A. Some needs have to be fulfilled before others. For example, on the bottom of the pyramid, there is the need for food and water. You will die without these things so they are the most important part of your life. After those needs are met, you have to be safe. If you're not safe, how can you think about other things? You're always going to be thinking about danger. When you're fed and safe, you think about belonging. I believe that everyone (whether it's suppressed or not) has a need to belong...to fit in somewhere, to have friends or family that validate our existence. So anyway, Maslow knew that humans had certain things to take care of before other things. Sometimes we may be hungry but unable to eat because we're thinking about a… [cont.]

Q. He has a heriachy of needs piramid but what was his impact in education, his theory?
Asked by mariposa - Mon Oct 15 23:00:41 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. that children learn best when their basic needs are met. looking at a child as a "whole picture". not just all children are at an even playing field sitting in the classroom. teachers have to act accordingly when possible knowing some children may have witnessed violence, for example, before school that morning. maybe they don't have a stable home. maybe they are hungry. etc. you get my point! it is so sad what children go through. but, yea...hierarchy important for development and stages and climbing up when needs are met/stuck when they are not.

A. He came up with the hierarchy of needs. First and foremost people need their physiological needs met (eg food and water) then they need safety, love and belonging, esteem and actualisation. You can find plenty of information if you do a search on "Abraham Maslow". Cheers Audrey www.animalhomebusiness.co m

A. I think one of the most important pioneer thinkers is Abraham Maslow because he created what is known as the Hierarchy of Needs which are very important to us and how we function in society. These needs are our physiological needs, safety needs, love and acceptance and the need to belong, the needs for esteem, and self- actualization. These I feel are so important and so true in our need to belong and function in society.

A. Haire, Ghiselli and Porter (Indstrial Relations 12, no. 2 (Feb. 1963), pp 95-117 surveyed 3,641 managers in 14 countries. They concluded that Maslow's needs, in particular the upper level ones, are important at the managerial level. Ronen (S. Ronen. "Comparative and Multinational Management:, Wiley, 1986) )investigated whether the motivation categories of Maslow apply universally. Studying trained, nonmanagerial male employees in Germany, canada, France, Japan, and the UK, he concluded that Maslow's need hierarchy is confirmed. In Asian cultures, Maslovian conclusions may be skewed. Different hierarchies might better reflect other cultures.

A. My dear Rodolfo... As "Celine" has already pointed out ...the main thing Maslow is famous for is the "5 Basic needs" of humans which he classified in such a "Pyramid-type-arrangement "...-smile- Here's how the hierarchy is constructed: 1. Biological and Physiological needs - air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep, etc. 2. Safety needs - protection from elements, security, order, law, limits, stability, etc. 3. Belongings and Love needs - work group, family, affection, relationships, etc. 4. Esteem needs - self-esteem, achievement, mastery, independence, status, dominance, prestige, managerial responsibility, etc. 5. Self-Actualization needs - realizing personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and… [cont.]

Q. Thorndike test result
Asked by Leahu D - Thu Dec 20 12:10:01 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Figuring Maslow and Thorndike were fellow students and who went into opposite directions in their lives (Thorndike - behaviorism; Maslow - humanism), my assumption is that another fellow, yet not as popular, student within their educational institution scored higher on the test that Thorndike assisted in developing. Or, some alternative theories: Since it was Thorndike's test, he scored the highest on it Since Thorndike is better known for his experiments on animal mazes and learned behavior, perhaps one of the cats he worked with scored highest. LOL.

A. He is noted for his conceptualization of a "hierarchy of human needs", and is considered the father of humanistic psychology. I believe he was best known for Freudian theory. The three components of his theory are 1. a method of investigation of the mind; 2. a systematized set of theories about human behavior; and 3. a method of treatment of psychological or emotional illness. A. i think maslow's hierarchy of needs is interesting because i wonder whether these needs have changed as society has changed. Maslow lived in a different era when he created this hierarchy of needs...today, i think it is applicable only to certain types of societies. what one person needs might not necessarily be what the other person needs. as time goes by, our wants and needs become adjusted. have they remained the same or not? try to find examples of this. also, it could be suggested that in today's time, "wants" and "needs" are often used interchangeably.
