This is the most frank, and troubling post, I've ever written. I wished that I can do something about myself.

Christians: How to deal with apathy?
Q. The early Church called it acedia: "...signifying profound indifference and inability to care about things that matter, even to the extent that you no longer care that you can't care." "Acedia offers a false sense of complacency and security. We can care about celebrities or online 'friends' more than our neighbors; we can treat rampant homelessness as 'just the way things are,' and that relieves us from having to do anything about it." (Kathleen Norris) It means settling for mediocrity. How do we avoid it? (Thx to Mizz Z.)

A. It's hard to care about others when we are so self absorbed. Unless something directly affects our situation, we don't give it much thought. Jesus asked us to give up our own lives for others, and that is a hard thing to do in this culture, because we want something back for our efforts. I am guilty as well and speak of my own sin. I try to be like Jesus and I am trying to live as He would have me live by helping others. I can have a joyful heart when I am doing it for Him, (in fact have a hard time even caring if I don't) but if I want money or recognition it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. (so to speak)
