Q. accidentally knocked over my WD 500gb home edition external hd now it won't work if I take the hd apart can I install the hd into my computer to retrieve my data? I looked up data recovery sites and they charge WAY TOO much. if anyone else has advice it would be much appreciated.

A. 1 you will void the warranty. 2 Yes you can. These drives are usually SATA so if you have an extra cable and connection. Yes you can install it in your computer. Listen to the drive. If it is making a clicking noise there is no way to recover the data. Even if you do this you may not be able to recover the data.
